Quick fire painting guide

I had a couple of emails about my fire technique.

In brief, it is quite simple if you have similar shades, or the exact same paints as shown here (pictured is my constant aide, a paint scheme note book):

The stand out is the black red by Vallejo, this is a very dark red and gives a great finish for the flame.

Start with a white undercoat, followed by light yellow in the upper 4/5ths.

And by receeding fifths, add each colour, ensuring to apply while the prior has barely dried.

Stroke the new colours upward following the flame shape and contours as you see fit.

The final Black Red starts from the upper fifth, then downward through the contours as best suits the flame shape but note further than the latest shade. This is likely the most important shading as too much can tilt the result into undesirable.

In total, I finished the torch in a few minutes. I have since added light yellow to the highlights on the torch ring, rather than stark white.

I hope this helps those who would rather apply from preset paints than a variable mix.

-Sebastian.
